Welcome to my website.
BS from the UMM/a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Sociology
Graduate work at St. Cloud State and Mankato state earning licenses in Special Learning Disabilities and Emotional/Behavioral Disorders
Masters in Educational Leadership from Southwest State University
Post-graduate work at Learner's Edge
Considering all of that education, my students and families have actually been some of my finest teachers. I have learned that students don't care about how much you know until they know how much you care. What works for one student doesn't always work for the other. I have had to get behind the eyes of my students to determine which methodology, learning style, and psychology works best to expedite the individual's learning.
My greatest joy comes when a student becomes a fluent reader, begins to hear his/her own voice in writing, or can approach mathematics with confidence. Another thrill comes when a student begins to switch his "Little Engine" philosophy from "I think I can" to "I know I can" to "I did it!!" I enjoy empowering students to realize that they are in charge of their education and their future; what they are doing today will impact their future for ever. Falling in love with life long learning is our ultimate goal!
Whatever my assignment, students have been my reason to seize the days for the past forty years. They have made my position a pleasure. Thank you for entrusting your children with me. My sister, another special needs teacher, continues to remind me that "Every student is some mother's child." I will always try to remember that, for I am a mother of two children as well.
